im rereading for the nth time. still catesby all the way. tbh, i feel that despite Richard's deep love for both henry's (lancaster and buckingham), he loves them because they desire them in their own ways, bc he hated himself and see himself as a demon. henry vi loves richard bc he sees him as an angel (tho it turned to romantic love and lust which he very much denied bc he's religious final boss), while buckingham sees him as a perfect king (and bc he's his past savior and he has interesting body, tho it did genuinely turned into love). richard loved both of them bc he felt like he has to prove something, that he's capable of being loved, even if it meant it's conditional (let's be honest, their loves for richard were conditional. richard has to sacrifice something). tho both love interests ended in tragic ways. but it i think the real tragedy in case of the romance here, was the fact that the perfect, ideal love richard was yearning for, who loves him unconditionally without him ever sacrificing anything and doing everything he desires, was by his side all the time, catesby! but i think richard doesnt see him as love interest bc he's his sanctuary and home, anything further than that could make catesby be drowned to hell with him. basically, with richard, they're:
henry = star-crossed lover. an escapism, forbidden love, and secret identities.
buckingham = half-soul/twin souls. they share ambition and when together, they feel like they're one.
catesby = shadow/home: invisible but permanent, always there for him, his sanctuary.
lastly, to anyone who claimed richard's death was for someone (no drop name, but i saw some ppl saying that), it's not. his death was a symbol of self acceptance. he finally accepted the body he loathed his entire life. he accepted himself for he is. he made peace with himself and learned that he's genuinely loved by many. so at peace, he succumbed into a deep slumber.
