As someone who's older, it's really interesting to see how much Western consumption / media has influenced the discussions around Eastern BL. While we do have generally better stories with the bigger audience, it used to be a widely accepted practice to consume these works as just....interesting (and horny most times) fictional worlds that aren't intended to reflect reality. It's a fantasy genre with generally unrealistic but entertaining characters.
So it's funny to see so much moral signaling and hate from a younger generation that equate everything they consume as some sort of representation of their scruples.
In the lens of reality, a lot of this is unacceptable...but this is fiction, and you don't really read to see a replica of reality in fiction.
