Are we even reading the same story? This is more real than anything when you face even half the trauma she did, her siblings died, she was abused, living in the worst possible conditions, never had a person or even a chance to truly feel anything other other than numbness to survive, she found a fleeting glimpse of stability and happiness and then got stripped of it forced to run forced to watch so many people die, her friends, her family, the first person to ever call her beautiful and you think that’s just something she’d overcome casually? She’s constantly reminded of her poor status she can never get a break over her appearance. You try “getting over it” with multiple people whispering in your ear how ugly and unworthy you are every time you even take a step in progress. Dumbing her trauma down to “you’re feeling ugly asf” says a lot about your own media literacy. If you want poorly written romance slop maybe reading something else is a better idea after all…

Exactly. Women are ALWAYS quick to hate on female characters while literally ignoring every bit of writing that shows the exact reason why the character is like that….im genuinely tired

Exactly! She's been through abuse and traumatic situations her whole life then she was too busy just trying to survive. Living every day afraid that the people looking for her will kill her, while also having to go out and do any type of work possible to keep her sister and herself alive. When would she have time to face her trauma and try to heal??? Specially while living with one of her abusers! She has finally started to feel a bit of safety and comfort by realizing there are people who truly care about her. It took her time to believe someone will actually love her and wouldn't leave her. She found someone who she can let her guard down around and that is why we are seeing her start to face some of her trauma and talk about it. She has just started that journey after being in survival mode for so long. It'll take time but now she has a support group and people she feels safe with.
It's like people just want her to immediately get over a lifelong trauma and abuse, like it's nothing, get married and have babies. Like this ain't that type of story, they should just go read cliche romance stories if they want that. Where the MC will magically get over all her trauma right after ML shows up because *romance*.

Sadly she won't change. It's kinda boring how dull she is in character right? I want to kill her for insisting so much with the bitch sister... C'mon girl!!!! She already told you several times AND SHOW YOU how much she hates you!!!! Just leave her die already

I think it's the trauma response and also survivor's guilt too

It's funny that people think confidence can be build so easily when it was the hardest thing ever especially if you have been told how ugly useless etc you are since your birth. She basically has those words ingrained deep in her blood and flesh and believed that is who she really is.

They really think a few years of love would erase the fully ingrained self hatred she has? Not a chance. She can become more beautiful and become a noble and those thoughts will still linger in her.
