Commentors are being so weird as if they aren't reading the story. MY is NOT manipulating Nanjo in this scene specifically. He really is going to kill himself, and genuinely doesn't think Nanjo will care because of his foster parents who raised him lovingly for years but threw him away like he was nothing. And his parents may have got their shit together, but never actually did anything to really show they love him. He was merely an obligation. He genuinely doesn't thing he's worth anything.
Should MY be telling Nanjo all this? No. But does he understand why its wrong? Also no. If he had succeeded in cutting his wrist correctly, they literally wouldn't be having this conversation.
Don't get me wrong, he definitely was manipulative at the beginning of the story, but witnessing that he actually went through the attempt, should tell you narratively that he's not playing games at all.
