part of the issue is just the miscommunication generally, but more specifically, the way that MC just... doesn't see the red flags in how ML is behaving (not red flag as in toxic, red flag as in maybe he's not as happy as he seems/is dealing w some shit). he's just like "wow he always wants to do what I do! that's so cool!!1!" like no bb yall need to have several many conversations
