I feel like maybe because this was made as a short story, I just couldn’t really grasp the emotions or the story it was trying to deliver. I think it would’ve worked better if it were written as a slower-paced story, with more poetic and emotionally evocative imagery and descriptions. It feels too rushed, like it’s just “oh, I want to make a mellow fantasy story, but I want to make it quick.” And honestly, that makes it kind of cringe.
