The thing is, they were neglectful for sure, but none of them are evil. I read the one go the brother and here is what I think is happening. I am saying this as a social psychology graduate. So first we need to see this throught the lense of the omegarverse world + the whole dominant version of the secondary genders.
Turns out that the brother is not malicious or sadistic even. He literally is neurodivergent and unable to comprehend emotions. They literally get him a tutor so that he can learn emotions but they just end up teaching him how to emulate them rather than comprehend them. So he hows how people do things, but not why.
This dumbass of a brother genuinely thinks he is helping Chase when he does all that bullshit (he would not hurt bliss honestly in his head he thought he was explaining the necessity to release hormones to Chase, like a yeah I would be capable of hurting bliss if I didn’t release my hormones - which is why I release them in advance, that way I don’t hurt anyone. So he is trying to convince chase to engage in behaviours that would allow him to release it so he does suffer). He is very outcome oriented so everything becomes a means to an end. Not Not because he is this Machiavellian genius strategist, just very one track minded and being unable to empathise with others because that’s how his brain is. So yes the parents were neglectful and did not monitor how their kids interacted with each other.
Chase unfortunately is the only odd one out because he the most normally wired one in the family, they genuinely should have sent Chase to live with someone else in my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong I couldn’t give a rats ass what ppl make but as a reader, characters like that is just ragebait at this point.
It’s like in some stories where the author adds random rape just to make the two MCs closer and trauma bond and I’m left mad as fuck not giving a shit about the story anymore cuz I can’t stop being pissed off at a character that the author makes me hate.

Imo this is the best work out of the "if you can" franchise and the most tolerable out of all of them. I'm staying because of Joshua at first but chase grew on me later on. The communication sucks tho
So my advice is... If you don't really like red-flaggy MC/ML, don't read anything else from this franchise cuz it will scar you for life, dear.
Sure evil maybe be debatable but the brother sure did and still does pretty horrific shit, maybe not in his own fucked up little brain but even by the standards their own universe it’s in it's pretty fuckin bad. Plus I have no reason to care about his fucked up head. Also neglect to that standard is straight up abuse.
Oh my fucking god I hope Chase's brother dies and his dad too. Fuck all of them! But I know too fuckin well that most of the time shitty characters like that gets off Scott free and it pisses me the fuck off. So many stories make such despicable characters where I’d gladly see their demise no matter how horrific but instead of that the author just gives them a slap on the wrist.
