I don’t think he died tho. I thought he got the ability to go into a painting and just started living there?
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Jio DID infact die in the fire. He made it into the classroom to his painting, but he didn't survive. He is not human anymore, and as the previous commenter explained, he's simply an unreliable narrator because he simply doesn't know he died and therefore thinks he's still human.

I don't get why ppl mistake Jio as a human fr. Yes its a misunderstanding genre but it's obvious he's actually not a human anymore but a creature of some sort. The evidence proving so is literally every chapter !! It's just he's an unreliable narrator. I mean c'mon, he died and became a painting with an absurb adaptability. You think he's still human after all that?
