Hmmmmm I have a theory. That story being told in the beginning where the human lover stabbed and took the orb was already fishy but these last few chapters prove that was definitely the washed "clean" version. I'm thinking they killed or nearly killed the human lover. The shaman had tried to steal the orb for themselves only for the human lover to steal then swallow the orb and throw himself off a cliff so the shaman could not grab it for themself.
