Well to avoid spoilers I'll say the good friend works like a a two way comunication device with some extra perks, Braun is not exactly present but he was channeled through the plush, essentially becoming it, and because of that Braun has to respect the rules of the good friend horror story, he cannot be present in his true form because of the plush's properties.
Oh Braun, you can't just say that! (￣∇￣")
Why is the shadow the good friend plus rather than Braun's true form...
