Well to avoid spoilers I'll say the good friend works like a a two way comunication device with some extra perks, Braun is not exactly present but he was channeled through the plush, essentially becoming it, and because of that Braun has to respect the rules of the good friend horror story, he cannot be present in his true form because of the plush's properties.
Thank you for the info but I just realize that the shadow that really was meant to manifest/reflect was the plush form not braun's form after re-reading this part of the novel lmao. Dammit, I swear its all that Braun fanarts fault /jk
