i'm on chapter 38 and i just have to drop this...as someone who is NOT a proshipper, i was able to keep reading for a while by gaslighting myself into thinking, "ohh, they're barely even stepsisters, their parents probably haven't been married for long, they don't even see eachother as sisters, mc transmigrated into mu xing's body so they're not really stepsiblings" along with a bunch of other excuses, but...i can't stay in denial any longer. i lost my will to stay in denial once they slept together. it's REALLY difficult to act like they're not siblings when meng nian (white hair) is constantly going "sister! sister!!" and even gu xing kind of sees her as a "daughter" in a way because she wrote her ig??? i dunno it's just pretty fucking weird.
the breaking point for me really tho was su li (purple haired bodyguard) raping mu yang (blonde) in chapter 36, and mu yang starting to like her from that...i already knew that they fucked before, but it seemed consensual and like they were the same age. did the author think it was hot for mu yang to be begging for su li to stop fucking molesting them???? (i don't know the whole ordeal with mu yang's gender identity, since the story hasnt really brought it up yet, so i'll just be using they/them pronouns.) stockholm syndrome at its finest...poor mu yang, everyone keeps taking advantage of them :C i also feel like there was no reason to make them biologically female in the first place though other than "yuri hot durrr" which i full heartedly understand but it complicates things a lot. i also know that there is a 0% chance of mu yang actually being trans, since this is chinese and it's infinitely more likely that the mom never gave birth to a boy, they needed a male heir, yatta yatta yatta but...idc, fuck transphobia, let people have headcanons, etc.
the sad thing is that this story really had potential. the art is fantastic, and the plot was pretty intriguing for a transmigration story. i enjoyed the fact that the characters' personalities differed and they acted unpredictably compared to how they were like in the original story. i'd honestly even go so far as to say the writing is pretty good, although i've seen some comments claiming that the whole story goes to shit in the later chapters, and since i don't even wanna read that far, im inclined to believe them. i'm not trying to bash this too hard since it's not the worst i've ever seen, and people are inclined to their likes, but this certainly has its flaws.
and before anyone starts coming at me like "oooh, it's been clear since the first couple panels that this was incest, don't go complaining when you willingly read it" I KNOW. call me a hypocrite all you want, it's true. i'm not saying it's the manhua's fault though, i just wanted to share my thoughts and experiences concerning this. and i must admit, i DO like toxic yuri. i like it when fictional lesbians are mentally unstable and unhealthy codependent, but what i do NOT like is incest, rape, and pedophilia (although it's unconfirmed from what i've seen, in flashbacks su li looks potentially 5+ years older than mu yang, and she's even old enough to teach a high school class. pretty creepy and rubs me the wrong way). btw i'm not above being criticized, but please don't even attempt to argue with me using the whole "but it's just fiction !!" excuse; it's fucking stupid and you WILL be ignored, blocked, and laughed at incessantly.
