He also seems incapable of standing up for himself which makes him a bad partner, especially as a man. Aya is an irredeemable bitch but her critiques aren't totally off base.
No one in this story is a truly good person. But it is a story of our MC becoming one by being able to stand up for not only himself but others though healing from his trauma. And now, thankfully, our FL is going on the same journey and I can't wait to see that growth.
It's not a liked position because it feels lacking in empathy, but people who hate themselves and are paralyzed by anxiety and fear are not good people because they are too wrapped up in themselves to do good thing.
Hopefully haisuke grows some balls, and then he would truly be a near perfect partner.
Yes. And I don't say it to shit on him. I want him to pull himself together and be strong. But I can only have so much sympathy and empathy for someone who just won't stand up for themselves or try to change their circumstances. I get it, I've been on both sides of it, but that also means I know that, a lot of times, "empathy" is just enabling.

man, I would die to be able to date someone as caring and sweet as Haisuke, he can totally get himself a better girl out there than that stupid Aya girl smh
