Yuri is not that kind of character at alllll. He’s genuinely one of the most beautiful characters Yuuji-nim has ever written. There was never anything like that going through Yuri’s mind toward Xinlu when he was still a child. It was simply a pure admiration for something beautiful. Everyone loves differently, and Yuri’s way of loving is so much purer... That’s platonic love. So please don’t think anything bad about a character as beautiful as him.

I'm at least grateful how he didn't act upon his feelings but platonic love? I've read this back to back already including the novel and the portrayal doesn't seem to depict anything platonic at all. Admiration, sure! But what he felt was definetly not platonic. Despite his love for him being "pure", it still weighs on the fact that he was more of age during that time—but not necessarily predatory. I can acknowledge how he is a patient and daring person while still criticizing certain aspects of his character.

Right, the author could at least put Yuri as a teenager like 17 or 18 it would be less weird cause besides his intentions saying that a 12 or 13 years old is your first love at 25 ish is crazy work

You actually explained it really well, but seriously, you have to understand what Yuri meant when he called Xinlu’s beauty his “first love.” He fell in love with something beautiful itself, not with Xinlu as a child. That’s what I’ve come to realize.

In the real world, someone Yuri’s age feeling that way toward a child would obviously raise serious concerns. But seriously, a kind of love like Yuri’s probably doesn’t even exist in real life. He’s a character who truly belongs to the world of fiction. So I don’t think we should apply the disturbing realities of the real world to the way Yuri sees and appreciates something beautiful.

Mmm... Right! I do agree that certain rules of reality should not be applicable to fiction, but there's also an extent, yk?? I think what matters most is that we know why this trope works in this specific story and must remain in this tale alone.

He found him beautiful, he never took action and they met later when Xinlu is an adult, after years, he literally saw him once and the image was imprinted in him, like... I dont even consider that first love like Xinlu said, he probably mistaken that for first love

I think all of this drama could've been avoided if most author didnt have the necessity to make the couple know each other in childhood like they can met and fall in love in adulthood. Its always like " so you're are that boy from the past who gave me that flower and since then has been in love with me?" We always fall in this kind of plot

That's what makes their story unique, because it's different from "always" of plot

Seriously, the main character has a very beautiful mind, emotional stability and a green flag like Yuri is very rare in a story, if you meet a character like him, let me know. because until now I still haven't found them and am thirsty for Yuri Gable
