Exactly, despising what she did but at the same time understanding that she has been a victim shows how complex the character is written. Kudos to the author! She always comes up with such brilliantly complex characters, I loved her previous work and this one makes me anticipate the next chapters with all their twists and turns
Unpopular opinion but I still absolutely love her character. She is extremely well written and I like the fact that she’s a bad person. Obviously she’s a murderer and she abuses her authority to submit those that are inferior than her, and the fact those are horrible actions cannot go unstated.
But she’s also really complex, her life has been decided by the men in power before she was even born. Even with all her status and money, she’s still completely helpless so she resorts to devious and morally depraved acts to gain a semblance of control in her life. Things that are her greatest asset; her beauty and her lineage, also cause her the most suffering. She uses her look to manipulate and trick others, but she also absolutely despises when the same fake exterior is shown back to her. She doesn’t want to be misunderstood but she always lies, she wants to be seen but she would be petrified if her true nature was revealed, she wants love but she hurts those who are the closest to her.
She’s a hypocrite, a killer and a liar. She does unforgivable things but she’s also been a victim in the past. The story makes you question how much her circumstances goes into play when it comes to the person she is now. Obviously her actions cannot be excused because her decisions are hers alone and they have led her here. But I think it’s goes to show just how solid her writing is to produce such strong opinions and reactions about her character. You can sympathise with her but also hate her, truly the author has created another masterpiece.
