I came back to reread because I was missing this so much and I propose a different theory about the tri-mule. I think rather than assuming that the first action should be to prevent it they need to establish if the tri-mule is predictive, prescriptive, manipulating, or self-fulfilling it's own grounds. Aka, the goal of the trimule itself.
If we are to follow their scientific logic (which is actually somewhat grounded in real-world presumptions of science, space, and continuity) it is true it could pose a threat created by this discrepancy. But in the same instance, they've already said themselves that space travels faster than light and light is falling behind so what is to say that the light won't exactly reveal these observable truths to soon happen AFTER the Black Dungeon? I think my main argument against their main argument of the trimule is that simply because the object hails from the realm of distortion doesn't mean it's inherently bad, false, and/or infallible.
Because this is obviously a story, plot framework obviously takes precedence over anything anyone can predict; however I still think it's worth giving a bit of thought just for the plot you know because this goes into the philosophical argument of can we actually conclude the trimule is inherently "evil" simply based on its origin? Can we also conclude that the gods are not acting out of fear of it's influence because its not something the observer can yet see, if observer can see it at all the way it seems as its been framed the distortion is consuming the light (stars) thus cause the disqualification to begin with? The gods remind me of the Greek gods in a way or even Ragnarok not in that they underestimate human ability but rather the moment something becomes a threat to their omnipotence a measure is put in place as like a safeguard of sorts to protect their understanding of the world around them. Now I'm not saying that the try meal isn't bad I just think that it shouldn't be immediately perceived for preventative measures.
