But his brothers at that time all wanted thr throne, so, many of the concubines tried to kill him so their sons could be crown prince instead. He survived and became emperor. But he then became very obsessed over 1st born. His 1st born prince died young, so he made the 2nd prince (prince bang) as crown prince regardless his ability. Prince bang is not capable at all and very ruthless in the novel. Emperor doting on crown prince is the sole reason for all those bloodshed between princes. Our ML, is very smart and good at martial art. From outside, the emperor seemed doting on him but he wasn't, it just to power check. Remember, ML had to kill himself to prove his innocent like 5 times in 5 timeline, and the emperor didn't care at all. ML wasn't interested in crown at all but even so, emperor was so concern to limit ML power. And Prince Gi was sent to border because emperor didn't want any prince with power to compete with crown prince.
