it's normal for kids to have crushes on older people, but it's inappropriate for those older individuals to reciprocate, or to not discourage the younger person if the younger person proactively expresses their interest.
I haven't read it because I'm not interested in pedo-bait, so this is an outsider's perspective. the problem with shota oni appears to be that it's still presenting a pre-/pubescent child as a legitimate romantic prospect for an older person (still a minor to make it just barely "tolerable", but someone decidedly in a different stage of maturity). even if they're not actually in a relationship or feelings are reciprocated, it's still making content showing the older boy being flustered around a child and hinting at sexual interest and the possibility of romance. what is the appeal of any of that if it's not to present and view the younger child with sexual or romantic interest in some way? that goes for both the characters and the audience.
just looking it up on google to see what it looks like is ringing alarms. i cant imagine anything good coming out of consuming this piece of media unless you're a fan of pedophilic content, which would be very questionable
The synopsis I got:
[Tsubaki accidentally left a scar on Yu's forehead when they were younger. Because of this, Tsubaki feels a strong sense of responsibility and is determined to grow big and strong to protect Yu, vowing to "take responsibility and make him happy". Meanwhile, Yu finds Tsubaki adorable but mostly treats him like a young child, leading to a mix of everyday comedy, earnest struggles to grow up, and heartfelt romantic tension.]
AND HEARTFELT ROMANTIC TENSION?......
the other person explained it well, but its VERY strange for a 17 year old to get involved with a 12 year old and not discourage romantic behaviors from someone so young and impressionable
so tldr: not worth it, it would be weird to get into this series
Mm it was recommended to me as a "wholesome story" and I took it as "it’s relatable" since I was once in the position so I didn’t think of its idea this way..but yeah I agree, now that I think abt it ,it also gives alot of predators the opportunity to project their disgusting desires for children
I’ll stay away from it especially since there’s lot of discourse abt it and ppl weirdly defend it
Thank u

I haven’t read shotaoni yet,the name also ticked me off
but is it problematic to make a story abt a 12y that likes a 17 y/o?
I remember being 12 and liking a guy who was 17 and lots of my friends at that time dated guys aged 15-16-17 as 12-13y/o but surprisingly none of us thought it’s weird at that time.
Now I do think that’s it’s weird for someone who’s abt to be an adult to like a 12y/o..
ofc it’s not a problem if they were like 18 and 23 and decided to date
it’s not the matter of their age difference but the timing I believe that is wrong
My point is,it’s a story that talks abt a 12y/o who’s inlove with a 17y/o that doesn’t reciprocate his feelings,no? Do ppl have issue with this fact of what is the issue of this story exactly?is it "pedophilic" or?
I have a big issue with pedophilia(obviously),
I’ve heard ppl say it’s a cute story and I heard ppl say it’s disgusting
so I need to know
