I'm pretty sure what had happened was the artist planned on only adapting the first novel, the flower of aloshya, and then changed up the ending to give it a clean finish, but after the success of the first season decided to continue with the second novel, the mirror of targo, so there are some inconsistencies between seasons.
but yes, there is rape/dubcon, but based on your reading list i dont think you care too much. the latest chapter is the first time (i think) seeing the two consensual together. it really isnt my thing but despite that i still enjoyed the first season, the current season theyre putting more emphasis on the mc and ml's relationship and what they actually mean to each other ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ﾉ~ the plot is pretty good. I think most of the people who arent enjoying it as much right now, came from people who enjoyed the first season and werent expecting the tonal shift that came with the seasons after. jsyk, theres a lag i guess in the art style between seasons—its the same artist, but they started using a new program and were experimenting a little bit/getting used to it. i think with the latest chapter everything is back to its regularly scheduled program ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
