Most Asian diaspora households also don't wear shoes inside the house.
Usually in the west, you wear shoes in the house and then everyone is always wearing shoes or slippers, or people don't wear shoes in the house, and some people wear slippers
Vacuuming and mopping and sweeping are an everyday chore, though, and usually there are mats outside where people wipe there shoes off so there isn't a lot of dirt or mud, and if they are very wet or dirty people take them off even in a 'shoe' house

The asian in me just flinched seeing them wear shoes in the house, I am aware this is a story based in America and the norm over there. But how they just move around the house in the same shoes they were outside???
