About the Philippines-

I know Korea has heard some shit terrible things about the Philippines, BUT IN MY OPINION, the way these MANHWAS handles it is pretty racist. It feels like every single Manhwa i have read always uses the Philippines as this lawless system where drugs, syndicates, and illegal activities are just constantly happening. By the way, its not just BL that is a part of it. You need to add straight, GL, and basically manhwas where there are always actions.

Look, I'm a Filipino myself, so i actually agree with some of what they're showing because the corruption, Inequality, unemployment, and other illegal activities here are real. Like, it's so TERRIBLE in real life, citizens are suffering while them corrupts are living the life, even though we know these older generations votes will not really change for the better, cause its so common here in the Philippines to buy votes. But the main problem here is that these WRITERS are basically telling the entire audience that the Philippines is a total wasteland you shouldn't ever go to. They completely ignore that there are actually beautiful, peaceful places where you can spend your vacation and have a good time. Instead, they just frame the whole country as purely negative. I honesty hate and love it as a Filipino, but mostly hate it. Its because the innocent people and places are getting dragged into this

By the way, KOREAN DRAMAS are a massive part of this problem too, even though i know many of them are just adapted from manhwas. But K-dramas hit differently. As a reader, we are just looking at drawings, but K-dramas put it on video with real actors, giving it way more impact. Because K-dramas have such a massive global audience, from kids and teens to adults and older people, their influences is insane. When they push this kind of narrative on screen, it heavily brainwashes regular people who don't know any better, making them genuinely believe that the entire Philippines is just a dangerous, criminal place in real life.
