I’m literally not even a writer or an author, and I can think of a hundred-plus concepts that could be added without relying on rape or the same recycled tropes. That’s what frustrates me so much. It’s always the same shit: childhood friends, guides, chaebols, poor MCs, debt, CEOs, the entertainment industry, etc. There are literally so many other tropes, themes, and situations that could be explored.
But instead, these authors keep repeating the same formulas and then throwing rape into the story just because it’s labelled as smut. I genuinely don’t understand it. We’re literally capable of being much more creative than this. You can scroll through Instagram, see one random concept or reel, take inspiration from it, and build an entire storyline around it. There are endless possibilities.
At this point, it honestly feels like some authors are just following whatever is trending because it’s easier and more profitable than actually trying something different.
Lots manhwas and mangas have so much potential, so much tension, and god damn good drawing, my only complaint is the rape, non-con, everything that's just inhumane in the relationship, I mean I get it, angst and all that, but I just can't with rape and then the victim forgiving and staying in the relationship??? Fuck that shit. There's so much concepts you can put into the story to make it interesting like reverse isekai or something but rape??? really??? Im also concerned since we don't know who's reading the story, what if minors are reading these and think that rape is OK??? as a society we're already declining, collapsing, and we add the normalisation of rape and non con, yeah yeah im not the target audience but i still can't tolerate rape!
I've noticed this in most of the yaoi and straight josei and I hope that authors will normalise rape just for the sake of angst, arc, story development, kink or what. Unless it's stated in the prologue that there's consent and that rape is the kink and the partner organized the rape shit or whatever.
