Sure it's a given that they can't overpower the ML and his hounds when it comes to brawn, but by god if they've been planning this shit for a long time and if they're truly passionate about it, they could've been more strategic, go all or nothing yknow? so what if one or two of them die? if it achieves the goal then they wouldn't die in vain. I don't even understand how they'll negotiate the terms, they have nothing to offer aside from being free labor- the resources are provided and protected by the hounds- if all of them die, the hounds will still survive, but if the hounds are gone, they won't survive for long- so what even is their long term leverage? no one's stopping them to leave either, but of course they won't do that
I'd be on their side if they made efforts to find or create resources but the hounds are taking instead, also I might be missing something but aren't they not being forced to come with them too? they don't hunt or torture living people if I remember correctly, they are just made to choose, so if they loved their family so much and the group won't allow them to come because they're useless then they should've opted to stay with them instead of choosing to live and then blame the group for their deaths when they explicitly explain why they can't take them in in the first place.
