I think the best course of action was to inform a psychiatrist or psychologist to help the brother and help him lessen his literal bloodlust through medicines. Instead by shouldering the brother's need the elder one sacrificed himself while the other younger drag the older one to a path of self harm. Could be just the adult in me that don't romantized this stuff but, yeah I felt like the path they chose doesn't help the other but, just dug two grave for themselves in a social sense iykwim.... Which is befitting the title and if the goal was this, then I say the author was successful.
