He had to choose between saving his little sister and the father who abandoned both. Tbh I doubt he had even a reason, good or not. Proof of that is that he abandoned his children twice so it's clear he doesn't really care about them (unless some tragic backstory will be revealed later but the outcome still doesn't change)
