He already feels responsible for his mother’s death and blames himself for not protecting her from his father’s infidelity scandal. His father was abusive, too. This whole “everything is my fault” primarily stems from what he experienced from his youth.

Expecting him to fix things through communication while arguing she has the right to refuse to listen completely contradicts your argument. It seems to me you just want to find a way to blame him.

Say it louder for the people that are defending him. They don't understand there are consequences for the actions you do. The people that have done something wrong should go and apologise instead of trying to get back into someone else's life without any explanation acting like everything is okay in front of them but still are like cowards behind the scenes
