I’m not defending riftan but maxi needs to do this for HER, not use riftan as an excuse. This shouldn’t be about self sacrificing, it should be about gaining independence and improving herself independently of riftan. I’m glad towards the end she pushed away the mentality that she needed to put riftan first, and tbh I don’t think she would have unless they did this harsh of a break. Again, not defending riftan’s tantrums, but he ended up doing what was best for maxi in this scenario, to push her away so she can think of herself and not him (which she still would have done if they parted on good terms, we just saw it with her inner monologue).
