This has to be one of the best reads i’ve had yet. To begin, I like how realistic this story is. People argue that it seems misogynistic in a way that her life and her revenge is on a man, helped by a man, surrounded by men. Don’t get me wrong, it is frustrating, and as much as I hate the patriarchy, this manhwa was set obviously centuries ago. Lorena had no other way to work around the patriarchal system, she weaponized a man because there was no other way for society to take a woman seriously. A man fends off another man. Women don’t scare men, they should, but men don’t care. Another, I like how fragile and broken Lorena is. She’s no 24/7 heartless girlboss and I like that about her. It shows that no, a person can’t change overnight, and even if they do, it doesn’t change every part of them. Lorena doesn’t hyperventilate because she wants to. She doesn’t panic because she has to look small, fragile, and a woman that needs a man, it’s because she’s seriously traumatized from what happened. Anyone who tries to bend the narrative to her feeding to the “weak woman” trope feels a bit misogynistic to me.
Vaye is an abuser. End of story. Yes, it IS pitiful he chases after her, but are we seriously forgetting what he’s done? He thinks his woman is a possession. He could’ve married anyone else, but chose the happy, prettiest girl everybody wants and had it for himself. He approached her with the downfall of her country in mind, he knew what would happen, and still, he chose Lorena. That isn’t love. He’s just fucked up. Don’t get me started on the 7 years too. “Oh, but Lorena didn’t communicate either so it’s a mutual thing!!!” He TOOK her, placed her in a house far away from her country, and he dares think “wait why isn’t she singing like i thought she’d be.” Sure, he loved her, but it was twisted and toxic. One that was shit from the start. I like how the story didn’t bring them together. He does not see Lorena more than a woman.
To my favourite character, Mikello! I like how he doesn’t change drastically when he realizes that a deity DOES exist. I like how he accepted that, and Lorena didn’t try to convince him prior. I’m no republican.
Overall, this is a great story. I finished in like, 5-6 hours. There is some stuff that’s forgotten, like her other maid who was shot. Her brother. All that. Good shit!!
