This... Kinda feels racist?
It's not just common in Korea, it's also common in Japanese manga.
It's also just common in a lot of international media.
There's really nothing wrong with having known someone at 8 and meeting them later in life.
It's even common in real life.
I've heard countless stories of meeting in passing as a child and then reuniting as adults.
If you never leave the same area, you'll definitely run into children you grew up with.
I had a pizza delivery guy years ago be someone I went to school with for 15 years and I was in a different city.
It just happens.
This is also a story, story telling will have themes and reoccurring plotlines.
Their childhood is deeply tied to who they are rn.
"why is an entire race/country obsessed with xyz" is 9/10 times going to be somewhat racist.
I'm not implying op is foaming at the mouth racist. But saying a certain race is "obsessed" with a specific story trope... Is definitely a flavor of xenophobia.
They didn't even need to mention race at all.
Could have ended it with "I'm not a big fan of this trope". Didn't need to imply it's specific to a race.
If I said "idk why black people are so obsessed with fried chicken"... You would say that was racist.
It's a racist comment because It's embedded with well-known and well-aged stereotypes. That specific stereotype has been used countless times to pick on and insult Black people on the basis of race. No fucking body who hates or at the very least, is ignorant about koreans is gonna say "well well well, another dumb/ugly korean who just lovesss their childhood encounters trope." Like there's genuinely no fkn way you don't see how absolute shit of a comparison that was
Is it though? Those stereotypes came from racist cartoons that were made.
This is essentially a cartoon.
They are making assumptions that this specific race does this "more" and "obsessively".
You can make a racist comment without having racist intentions.
It's not about being ignorant or hateful but generalizations and treating it as if it's weird or something that should be stopped.
So yes, insinuating that east Asians are "obsessed" with a specific trope... Is kind of xenophobic.
There was zero reason to make it a race thing.
If they had just said "why is the met in childhood trope common" then wouldn't be race specific.

I love the art and they way seeing these men being played and even pegged cure my heart lol
It just I hate the way how koreans really obsessed with this childhood encounter bs ( ̄∇ ̄")
