They lost the plot

Somewhere along the way, or maybe it was the entire time, the plot just seemed to get lost. Firstly, if it wasn't for the extras, you couldn't really call this yaoi but rather shonen ai. Other than like, one masturbation scene.
But more than that, so much of this story has started ideas that just getting forgotten about and the attempted retro-fixing is just a mess. It is extremely heavily implied towards the beginning and middle that Chiyoung is an experiment. That he might even be something akin to an android, but then later they just act like he was kidnapped and then kidnapped again, but fake the second time.
The entire premise is just so nonesensical. Old guy kidnapped him, put him into an orphanage? Like why? Then for some unknown reason apparently Chiyoung hated him even though you'd think the bad guy would have done it in a way that he wouldn't know that he was the one who kidnapped him. It also makes no sense that he kidnapped him because it was before the age of 10 and presumably he wouldn't have really manifested his powers then. But so then he decides to have Titan act like they kidnapped him from the big bad for no apparent reason. It was never once hinted that Chiyoung had any sort of amnesia until the second season where they suddenly acted as if he didn't remember a time before being kidnapped by Titan. Somehow all of this though was supposed to "awaken" Chiyoung's powers, but in season 1 the bad guy clearly states repeatedly that he's waiting for Chiyoung to remember and regain his lost powers????

Honestly the story just makes no sense. Also, the entire confidential undercover stuff was so fucking stupid. Idk if the author just can't fathom how such an operation might work in theory or if they actually meant for all of it to be so damn stupid. What was even the point of it, other than it was supposed to create friction between him and his esper (which shouldn't have been a fucking thing because the boy's military superior gave him orders and he had to fulfill them, period. That's how the military works) Like somehow strong arming two separate missions together is somehow realistic. Either way, neither mission served any purpose. The entire Director Cho and his father in law plot just gets forgotten, or maybe they tried to act like it was wrapped up because Esper boy snuck into one's house in the middle of the night and beat the shit out of him. Somehow that had zero reprecussions.

The friction between Chiyoung and ML was also extremely nonsensical. I get why Chiyoung is pissed the fuck off, he absolutely should be, and resentful,l. However he also seems to be as dense as a log for most of the story and him and ML's arguments and thoughts just go in the same repeated circle so much that it's just repetitive and annoying. So many of these chapters could be cut entirely and would have been spent much better using the forgotten plotlines.

The ML is legitimately a piece of trash and just.... Never gets better? I'm with Chiyoung on this, boy bye. It seemed like at the end of season 1 he was going through a change, but then nope. Not at all. It also seemed that they were setting him up to have started having feelings for Chiyoung just a couple of years into their bond after he saves him from going rampant but that too is forgotten and he's just an ass the entire story who doesn't view Chiyoung as a person and constantly mocks Chiyoung for liking him.

And the bad guy, who is apparently the ML's uncle. Yea, nothing about him makes any sense in the least. Like, nothing. Is he impotent? Did he lose his guide? Did he ever have one? He had a falling out with his brother? This is all very supposedly. We really just don't have any real motivation for anything he does not any explanation on how he does any of it. He just seems to have a massive anti-military or is it anti-government organization for no real reason whatsoever and the story can't seem to decide if it's on its dying leg or if it's so strong and powerful that it just can't be thwarted. Don't even get me started on how often this man just inexplicably escapes death. It's like watching Resident Evil and every time you think a bad guy is dead it turns out to just be another clone. Jesus, give it a rest. Why are you dragging around this beat and dead horse? It's played out, move on.

There were some cool and promising plots early on in this but the author just couldn't seem to pick one and stick with it, and then resorted to hamfisting a crappy plot instead together out of the strings of abandoned plots and then attempted, and failed, to retroactively fix the nonsense story in season 2. Yet in May ways it seems the author has no idea how to move the core plot, which is the hatred between the two lead characters, forward. So the entire story they're stuck in place, never having any amount of growth. This may be why the other plots are all such a mess because they might have been attempts at moving that friction and character development forward but it never did move forward, so the author seems to just have kept throwing things at it as if that was going to fix the issue. It might have masked it at best, but it never solved the underlying poor writing issue.
This story could have been interesting and compelling, but I get the feeling that the author went into this with only a vague idea and no planning, and so we ended up with what you'd expect from that.

So in short, not a read I'd recommend to anyone.
