As Sunbear said Nate goes to their re and there he meets his highschool ex, Jessica Bundy and her friend and they act very weird which leads to his ex's friend spilling the beans about how after Nathan dumped her she found a porn star's nude photo which looked a lot like Nate and how David Mack (the football player who forced Alex to date his omega brother) used that photo to blackmail Alex and Alex was forced to do what he said in order to make sure that photo was deleted because eventhough it wasn't really Nate in the photo, the resemblance alone could've hurt him since people could just believe it was really him if the photo was made public. After that Nate asks his brother (who's married Karlyle's brother from Define the Relationship, aka a very prominent and powerful family) to dig up what happened to Alex in detail and his brother gives him a file about how David Mack forced Alex to date his brother for years after which Alex developed a form of phobia about omegas, about how his father vanished on him and left his debt for Alex and how he's been struggling all these years. Atp Nathan is going through a huge bout of regret about how he never let Alex explain himself and right around this time Alex manages to catch one of perperators of the murder cases (the hired mercenary that did the killings), the guy is chasing Amy to kill her and Amy's running towards Nate's house to get to safety which is when Alex catches up to her and starts fighting with the killer, tells Amy to run to Nate's house and in the process of taking down the guy he gets stabbed by a knife in his abdomen. Amy reaches Nate's house and immediately telld him to go to help Alex. Which leads to Nate finding Alex bleeding out cold in the rain in an alley. From this point untill Alex wakes up after surgery Nate's a bundle of regret, sadness, pure fear of losing him etc. From here onwards they start working out their issues and misunderstandings.

The amount of internal hissing Nate does towards Matthew in the whole story will never not be funny. Not that Matthew's all innocent given that he intentionally acts in ways to raise Nate's hackles since he's sharp and has picked up on these two's sus behaviors. But he really just wants to help his best friend solve his boy problems lmao.
