I've skipped some bits and pieces... But I can still give my opinion.

I've just finished the novel.... It was okay overall.

Uncle Bill is the character I like the most here and author killed him off. That was so sad. He would have been a great grandpa. He was killed so Layla will rely more on Matthias. ┗( T﹏T )┛ That's so unfair. He deserved to live longer. He was such a tsundere and he was adorable and loving . Gosh, I really teared up during their goodbyes when he was dying.

Matthias is a black flag. Zero remorse. He even said he didn't regret anything at all and will do them again. I hate and like that Layla became the center of his world. He's so obsessed and possessive. Hahahah I do love the times he loose control though. I would love to see his expressions drawn in this beautiful art when he goes crazy and disheleved. I'm so looking forward to those. Oh, I would love to see him spiraling out of control after Layla left him. Hahahahah. That would be a sight for sore eyes. But no, it wasn't redemption.

Layla... She's smart, kind, innocent and prideful. And she's beautiful but I don't really like her much... ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ I don't know? I know she do find Matthias attractive and all but it didnt feel like her "love" for him was great enough to forgive everything. I don't know. That's what I feel. The way she acts at the end, it was like they had a beautiful and loving relationship before they got separated during the war which clearly there was no such things. I would have preferred if it was done gradually. Anyway, She's not my favorite. hahaha

Claudine... I don't like that she only humiliated Layla but I guess she doesn't have the guts to do the same to Matthias. Hahaha she would be buried if she did. Anyway, I dont hate her. I kinda like her character. I feel like if she's the FL, people would have loved her. I was sad for her at the end. She got cheated on and lost her actual love just when she was about to accept him. I feel like her punishment was too great for her actions. But she's strong. Hope she actually finds a new love.

Kyle. I like how much he wants to beat or kill Matthias. Hahahaha. I love their brawls. He's one of those people that can make Matthias lose his composure. He wasn't really given any other love interest even in the side stories but I guess that's okay cause his feelings for Layla were quite strong. Giving him a new love could just seem like a rebound.

Dr. and Mrs Ettman. I like Dr. Ettman. He's a good person and a good father. He didn't defend his wife for what she did to Layla and I like how he supported and respected Kyle. He understood that Kyle will be the one to decide what to do with his life and he will just be there to support and provide guidance. As for Mrs Ettman, I can understand her side but what she did was really shitty. She understands that though. Like she knows she's clearly in the wrong. I like how the antagonists in this novel are so aware of how bad they are.

Dowager and Lady Herhardt. They're just noble ladies and act like it though the Dowager has more heart than the Lady. I love that the Dowager is calm and forgiving. She even forgave Uncle Bill for nearly killing her after the greenhouse incident. Lady Herhardt on the other hand did showmore resistance but I like how she acknowledge her son is weird.Hahahaha So she really loved Felix (Matthias and Layla's son) because he's a cheerful kid. She also warmed up to Layla at the end. They're not bad people.

Lastly Riette... His love for Claudine really stuck to me cause he died. It wasn't told much in the story but during the war he always profess his love to Claudine in his letters. I was really hoping he can be with Claudine at the end. Killing him was really uncalled for. Like why!? He didn't even do anything evil. He did try to get it on with Layla but he just flirted a bit and then backed off. I truly didn't see the reason to kill him off. He even helped get Layla across the border during the war. It was sad for Claudine as well, she was already gearing up to being with him. Receiving a love letter at the same time of the news of his death was really cruel. Honestly, Im just imagining that Riette pulled a Matthias (faked his death) and is actually the rich merchant who became Claudine's new fiance. There's no justice for their story. I didn't really see a point for his death aside from punishing Claudine, I guess? (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

Anyway, I may have missed some key parts/emotions since I skipped some but these are my thoughts after reading. ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
