I highly recommend reading the novel because from here on, understanding the timelines is an important factor of the plot!!~ I also suck at explaining but I'll try my best~ :D HEAVYYY SPOILERS!!! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . There are 3 timelines, timeline 1, timeline 2 and timeline 3. There is also an apocalypse; basically it's when all the dungeon/rift monsters escape the dungeons/rifts and attack humankind.
In TIMELINE 1: Lee Sayoung does not awaken, the West Sea Rift does not happen and J never leaves Sayoungs side; leading to them living happily together. However, the apocalypse does happen and it predominantly attacks non-awakeners first; so lee sayoung sadly dies. J tries to grieve, so he asks Hong Yesong to create a memorial dungeon based on J's memories with Sayoung (yes this was shown not long ago in ch 72 i think?). But eventually, J can't take it anymore and someone creates a watch to rewind time, but the watch needs power so J volunteers to be the watch's 'vessel' and basically 'sacrifices' himself. This creates timeline 2!
In timeline 2: The timeline we see in Gaeul's fragments; basically, the West Sea Rift happened, the apocalypse happened, and J was about to mutate into a monster, hence why he threw himself at the swarm of monsters and sacrificed himself. Sayoung finds the time-rewinding watch and rewinds time. HOWEVER, the watch was only to be used ONCE, but it had been used twice, so instead of new events occurring in timeline 3, timeline 2 is merging with timeline 3. Timeline 2 is still hovering over timeline 3, which is why timeline 2 Sayoung is in timeline 3; he is trying to prevent the two worlds from combining.
In timeline 3: This is the last and final timeline to try to solve everything. The West Sea Rift happened because of timeline 2 merging with this timeline. I call this the heavily angsty timeline :D
EXTRA INFO:
J's White Hair: J has white hair from the West Sea Rift. Back when he was in the rift, they ran out of food and began eating the monsters they slayed. However, J realised that eating the monsters' flesh and blood makes them slowly mutate and become monsters, so basically J is slowly mutating and becoming a monster, like in timeline 2! White hair is one of the first signs of early mutation.
TL2 LSY is kinda harmless, but there are times where he's annoying, but we all pity that poor man, so we let it slide.
Read the novel!! It would make a lot more sense oh and dont have favourite characters!!!! Otherwise you'll cry. Prepare tissues :)
