There's no proof that they were in the novel in the first place. The bot only assumed it, he didn't even know who will be the protagonists or how the story goes. Plus during their bed scene, the top said "it is small since my body isn't developed yet" something like that, plus the bot so the calculation on the whiteboard when he left. There were clues of regression, we just missed it. It all make sense if you reread it now. I think what happened was both of them regressed in the Top past/timeline/POV
