Good theory. I was thinking that it's possible that her memory of the past life were manipulated to make kaylus look like the villain so she won't associate with him. Since it looks like memory manipulation is happening here in case of her boss friend in regards to that creepy blonde. So possibly they were too much of a hindrance that the enemy manipulated her memories so. Or it was just the price to pay to rewind time
hazel is actually the real hazel and the contents in the book actually took place in a previous life where they were on the same exact path now with hazel running away instead she framed it as she was dead. so kaylus kidnapping lily, hazel closest friend, in hopes of hazel coming back to him but since it cuts off shortly after hazel never fully understood why he kidnapped her bc she actually ending up dying and reliving her life now
