and stunted mental growth. this sort of explains the first time she called mehen 'mommy' and just sort of melts into a childlike state around him.

her last life doesn't just fall under the label of “mommy issues” or “simply just, abusive”, she was dehumanized, treated as an extension of her mother. not to mention, the blatant emotional incest.

when that identity finally collapsed, she fell victim to that destruction—having no longer served a purpose, unable to distinguish herself from what was forced upon her. she was unable to have normal relationships because people felt inferior to her talents, because people had ill-intentions and wanted to mooch off her initial fame. she had no other hobbies or interests aside from what her mother placed upon her. she lacked in self-esteem because it was her mother that dictated how she was allowed to view herself; from her mouth, only came criticism, insult, and force.

she did not long for anything else as she was made to only yearn for what her mother permitted to exist. her mother did not see a daughter at all, only a child that could mimic it's parent perfectly enough to succeed in the same spaces.

she was not given at all the chance to explore and expand in other aspects of life, nor to broaden her experiences through human interactions. and she did not want to either herself, because what mattered most, was her mother.

that basically explains why mc is pretty much: socially inept, low self-esteem, pessimistic, and just extremely avoidant. i'd like to think it's not just because she's tired of her previous life's issues, but due to the fact that she's tethered away from the one person that could validate her being, and being completely rejected of it. this is why her development in the current season is so extremely satisfying! despite having “moved on” from the past, it still continues to live inside her, because such situations are not easy to be rid of, only handled smoother the next time it comes crashing. and those traits i just wrote down above, they aren't immediately glossed over either, but rather taken apart of one and another. we can still see it in her character, but now, she is able to handle it more positively.

in summary, i just really REALLY love this story. hehe (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
