Yes they were both minors when they met but I think the age difference is very important. A 7-8 year age difference right? At some point an 18 year old was pining over a 10ish year old. At the very least he confirmed he felt sexually attracted to a 15 year old as someone who was over 20. Age differences even of one year will matter a lot more the younger you are.
As a fan of yandere I'd love to defend many of his creepy actions but it is pretty solid evidence of grooming in this one which I can't in right conscience look past even if it's fictional.
