I can almost forgive the mother, but the wife... no way. She didn't marry the man, she married the baseball player. She's a shallow and selfish bitch. If karma exists she'll find herself in more pain than she caused Daisuke. Though, in retrospect, her selfish behaviour allowed Daisuke to find the happiness he'd once lost as well as a new outlook on his life. Maybe, sometimes, we need a few hurdles to propel us in the right direction. Still can't forgive that selfish behaviour tho. The mother, however, really just wanted what was best for her son. Homosexuality is hard enough to deal with for a parent in places like Japan. Add to that that his homosexuality could destroy his chances at fulfilling his dream and you have a perfect "panic scenario" for a parent. You and I are blessed to live in liberal countries where homosexuality is accepted, even embraced, but Japan is so steeped in tradition, it's hard for older generations to break out of the fear and prejudice. Hopefully, someday soon they'll realize how damaging their prejudices can be and choose to accept those who are not hetero as equally capable people regardless of who they sleep with.

I don't hate the mom. No mom wants their kid to suffer in the public eye especially and the Japanese are especially homophobic so she wanted to protect her young son from being shunned by society.
Also, she didn't threaten the boyfriend or anything and just begged him and she even told her son to apologize to his boyfriend
