It's been quite a while since I last read bara, so I don't know what to recommend.
What's the difference?
Bara is like a subgenre of yaoi. It is yaoi but the characters are real machos - they're big, muscular, hairy, ... (not all of them are hairy, but are deffinetly beefed).
The difference is basically the looks of the characters. You won't find girly looking men in a bara couple.
"Short for barazoku, from Japanese 薔薇族 (バラゾク, barazoku, literally "rose tribe"). Bara manga / doujinshi usually created by gay men for a gay audience.
The term bara often contrasts with Yaoi, which is gay male media usually made by heterosexual women to appeal to other heterosexual women."
Found it on mrm
no, it's not a subgenre. they are their own category and is separated from yaoi.
it's like this:
women's magazine = Boy's Love (yaoi and shounen-ai)
gay men's magazine = bara. the reason why they are commonly muscled is because bara mangakas prefer bears to twinks while BL mangakas are into bishounens because they are normally women. that's just that.
essentially, bara is manga made by gay men for gay men.
also, bara might commonly be smut, as exampled by the recs by the other users above but there are baras that had very beautiful stories too.

I didn't know that. Thank you (^^).
Like I said before, I haven't read bara for a long time now (a few years, actually). That was the idea I had ever since. Maybe I had actually known about it at the time, but then forgot about it... I don't know.
It's always good to know. And now I'll definetly remember (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
