i have disabilities myself ( i am not hard of hearing, but i am physically disabled and require surgery ), so i can understand ryuu's wariness towards people who aren't also hard of hearing. people can't understand unless they've experienced it firsthand and that's just how people work, but this doesn't excuse the way he acts. since who knows how long, people who have disabilities have been generally looked down upon for having disabilities, so it's not as though he's completely wrong ( however, that doesn't mean that there's not people who can see us as equals while keeping out disabilities in mind. ) it's clear he speaks from personal experience on the matter, and it's kind of upsetting that it seems to imply he hasn't met someone of hearing who can understand him. it's such an intensely jaded view and i pity him for that, but at the same time, it's sickening that he's pushing this view on others who are like him. that sort of toxic behavior is awful. even if i can understand where he comes from, that doesn't mean i can't hate him; he reminds me of a number of people who i've met in my life. i hate him, but i still want the best for him because it's clear that he's had a very difficult time himself and i can only hope that his viewpoint changes. if society were kinder to people with disabilities then i'm sure he wouldn't have turned out as he did. ryuu's a jaded individual due to experience, and maybe i'm wrong, but he seems like a character whose been through a lot to get him to where he is now. he may perceive his actions as right, but they're disgusting nonetheless.
