I think the sword is Hak.

Actually, the prophecy goes like this
"When the four dragons are gathered,
the sword and shield which will protect the king shall awaken,
and the Red Dragon shall restore the dawn at last."

Lots of fans have a theory. We can see that the four dragons are already mentioned. It is highly possible that the sword and shield are different people as they will only awaken after the four drahons are gathered. Ofc, Hak and Soo Won are the top nominees. Most thinks Hak is the Sword coz fighting skills and SooWon the shield coz she shieleded her from politics? Lol dunno.

I personally think Soo Won is the sword and Hak is the shield. Hak is usually protecting Yona. Soo Won is, well, being an asshole. What do you think?

Not sure. I'm wondering if there's another character that isn't been introduced yet.

What if soo won was the shield and hak was the sword?!?!?! Soo won rising to power (becoming king) because yona was still too young to defend the castle by herself and her father was a weak ruler so soo won made it his goal to protect hiryuu castle until yona and her sword (hak) can become strong enough to defend hiryuu castle

    Anonymous April 6, 2018 11:26 am

Why do they have to be people? Isn't the shield the dragon power that we saw recently, and the sword is the one Yona holds in many pictures in the first pages (and the intro story.)
Just because Hak is a major character doesn't mean that he has to be mentioned in the prophecy. King could be Soo-Won (he is king, duh) or Yona (King Hiryuu.) Both the dragon shield and the sword would be used by Yona to protect either herself or Soo-Won, whoever is the king.

After meeting Zeno, they went to Mink Soo (the priest)'s place to ask him about the king in the prophecy. The answer was something like: "The king has yet to appear" so he can't be Soo Won

Ik Soo, the priest name. And he says: "It seem the sword and the shield meant to protect the king..." "...both need a little time to appear" on chapter 43 page 13 (I searched after writing the reply)

No, he was talking about the sword and shield, not the king. (It's Ch.43 page 13) He never gave any information about the king, although they asked.

So what I mean, is that he didn't give any answer to the question on who is the king. Or any hints. The sword and shield hadn't appeared at the time, but nobody said that the king hasn't. So why couldn't Soo-won be king?

One other thing, in the English translations we all assume that they mean "king", so male, so Soo-Won being king. But in the actual Japanese version they use a word that actually doesn't specify a specific gender, so Hiryuu could be king or queen. Basically, "ruler" of Kouka. I just wanted to specify cuz a lot of people assume that because they use king, that it must be Soo-Won.^^

Yeah, I know that. I also believe that either Yona or Soo-Won could be the king.
But anyways, I think the sword and shield thing is solved (dragon shield and the ornament sword.) There's always a small possibility that the author wants to fool us on purpose, but I really really doubt it. I just wonder why everyone seems to believe that they are people, not objects.

    Yep. For example, http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/akatsuki_no_yona/an/akatsuki-no-yona-chapter-1.html/13/

She is clearly holding an actual sword.

Yeah, the same sword with dragon details is everywhere. Too special to be just a normal weapon, I think.
Also the story focused a many times on how Yona shouldn't wield a sword, a physical weapon. Isn't that a hint too? She still hasn't really used one (besides the time she cut her hair), so when she finally picks up a sword to fight with it, it will be the dragon sword and the prophecy will enter its final stage - something big will happen.
