But yet, these story are too common. This is not something you will remember in last like Ai no Kusabi. I'm quite sure that most of the viewers won't come back here. If that happens, only a few will found out this one. Others will found some similar manga to this and they won t even know their wrong.
For me, definitely worth to read and watch (the 1992 version and not the unfinished 2012 version). I am a person who despises tragedies because they make me bawl my heart out and they stick to my memory for years and make me depressed whenever I remember them. Having said that, I don't regret watching and reading ai no kusabi.
Just be warned, it isn't for everyone and I don't mean just because it has a sad ending. It has some vulgar events, social classes (high classes have slaves and all that stuff) so if you're just into fluff or you can't stand some characters being humiliated, used for sex and the likes, ai no kusabi isn't for you.
On the other hand, the uke still retains pride and strength despite all....I'm really trying not to spoil too much because I already said in my original post that it has a sad ending and in case you decide to read it/watch it, I still want you to be surprised by certain events and characters. If it sounds right up your alley, I say go for it.
to everyone complaining about this being disappointing, let me break it down to you, there are 4 types of yaoi:
-angst and tragedy with a sad ending (curse this heart-wrenching type)
-yaoi with angst in the beginning and the middle but a happy ending (all's well that ends well)
-yaoi with some slight angst but nothing major, mainly some misunderstandings and unspoken feelings => This yaoi falls in this category
-Absolute fluff from beginning to end to warm your heart
So not every yaoi has to be super deep and make you bawl your heart out.
Personally, I love all of these types except the first. The only yaoi I love with a tragic ending is (incidentally my fav yaoi of all times) "ai no kusabi" but aside from that, tragedy is a big NO for me
