I discovered yaoi back then bec. I was fed up wiht shoujo. not only the characters where annyoing also the ... mhhh storyboard maybe? the close up on the ridiculus big eyes to show feelings or something. I can count shojou I like with my ten fingers. for bl hands are not enough -would need tentacles with fingers XD
of course meanwhile you have shoujo-like yaoi but luckily the good ones are more then the bad ones.
