Something feels off about this manga ever since I started reading it.

1. Gay men/ trans men are seen as sexual predators no matter the situation. The manga draws it as if being gay is some sort of perversion to harass any male ass they see. Which is not a good representation at all for the LGBT community. Being gay doesnt make you a criminal!

2. Sexual harassment and abuse of men is seen as a comedy even tho its horrible. I cringe everytime the poor boy is scolded for trying to defend himself against that creepy uncle. Is he just supposed to hand his ass on a silver platter for the molester? its 2019 people, sexual harrassment of men isnt funny....

3. And him getting raped at 12 is glorified for some reason... that's rape and pedophilia packaged into one, wow.

Even if it is fiction. Its message is creepy and cringey as fuck. You will have to drink a few litres of bleach before you can hallucinate that everything in the manga is readable.

AGREED! I am left wondering if this is how life is like over there? Are workers expected to tolerate any kind of treatment including sexually harassment in other to keep their jobs? I know this is fiction but the stories we tell do tend to reflect our society and beliefs.

I was alarmed with how often the word “fag” was used. And the poor uke, jeez.

omg preach thats what i was thinking but couldnt have put it in better words like you tbh i just wanna see the sexy scenes the story itself is a joke and creepy why are they scolding the kid when hes been through such a traumatic event if anything they are adding fule to the fire this poor kid man. like why do they have any right to be mad when they don't know his situation like its as if they are promoting this type of behavior to anyone who doesnt like gay people or are not accepting.

    1. The reason it shows his past encounters with people of LGBT is to explain why he has such a prejudice against them bc all his past encounters were traumatic and was a misrepresentation of gay people, which is why Hachi was calling him rude and naive bc he assumed all gay men were like that and said he could’ve just turned them down politely instead of shoving them and running away.
    2. It’s kinda fuzzy and uncertain if his coworkers didn’t actually believe him that he was getting sexually harassed (except Hachi who used it to his advantage but he’s an asshole of a seme *sigh*) I think he coworkers were mostly focused on how this affected the company and everyone’s jobs, and it showed Amami breaking down bc of it. I also don’t think it was really made as a joke, it was just unbelievable and shocking how gross and perverted that guy was and pretty much Amami’s funny commentary on it.
    3. That was a bit fucked up I will agree. However I’d like to point out that yes it should be a no-brainer that it’s not ok to do that stuff, Japan is a country where the society is different and is not as progressive as we are in the states, so I like to try and keep that in mind when reading these.

Yes. I have considered this already. And its okay if there are a few examples of harassment that traumatised him. That's possible. However, can you count on one hand, the number of gay men in the manga that doesnt physically invade his space, or look like they are horny and panting hard as they approached him. Even the bartender and the main character are overly sexual and invasive of the straight guy. The bartender himself says that "gay men can't help but approach (a.k.a assault) him". Gay people aren't the walking dead trying to fuck everything guy ass they see.

    2. It’s kinda fuzzy and uncertain if his coworkers didn’t actually believe him that he was getting sexually harassed (except Hachi who used it to his advantage but he’s an asshole of a seme *sigh*)

I think they do believe him but the attitude his that he should "man up" and just let the old man feel him up because a man getting harrassed is nothing criminal and that he should put the company survival first. Now imagine if the uke was a girl. The whole community will be in flames screeching sexual assault. Its not that they dont believe him. its the message that a man making a deal out of sexual assault is Extra and weak and disappointing to the company. Which in a sense is still a problem today. Even though there are less assault of men, a higher percentage of male victims dont report or speak up because society ridicules and bullies them for being not manly enough for handling it on their own. There's double standards where a woman getting groped by men is taken seriously while a woman forcefully kissing men and groping men is seen as "quirky and fun".

3.Japan is a country where the society is different and is not as progressive as we are in the states

Yes. Which is exactly why we have to comment and talk about it, because mangas have been spreading such ideas since I was 13 and its being spread rapidly to the world in these "fictional works". Im 22 now. its not just contained in Japan alone, and we just need to make sure that what is fiction and what is fact is separated. And we must know whatever that is happening in this manga is not good for reality. Because i am pretty sure a bunch of younger to older teens read these and think "How hot and romantic!" and gloss over all the bleach drinking parts.

    1. I see your point and I hadn’t really noticed it bc I didn’t get that vibe from them but I think Tomiko (bartender) was kinda handsy with him just as a part of his character and it was set up as comical relief which I admit I thought it was pretty funny but I would like to point out that after Amami showed that this made him really uncomfortable, Tomiko backed off and I think the intent was purely innocent and not really insinuating anything more. As for Hachi, his character type and role is dominant and aggressive which is a role that some people (with consent of course) take over and find appealing. I assume that if Amami was truly apposed to it then Hachi would back off tho. As I’m sure we’ve all noticed, this role and advance is pretty common in yaoi and is often without consent from the uke which is another thing on its own but I want to point out that not all semes are like this. I find it intriguing that we may see Hachi start to treat him more gently and stop being a dick tho.

    2. Yes I totally agree with you on this, and it is a growing issue in our society and needs more attention. However, and hear me out, I don’t really think it was that deep of a theme in this scene and I think it was kinda glazed over as not that big of a deal, which is wrong in every way but I don’t think the intent was malicious. I’m a long time fan of this author, and I’ve noticed over the years that their themes and plots and even characters have greatly changed and become so much better in the long run (for example, in Hidoku Shinaide, the seme in the one shot forces himself on the uke which was nonconsensual in the beginning and continued through the start of the relationship. I imagine this was probably what was popular with a lot of other yaoi’s at the time which is sad. However later on in the series, the seme reflects on this and formally apologizes after he realizes it was fucked up and proves that he has matured)

    3. I suppose after reading so many yaoi’s that have some fucked up themes and scenes I became kinda numb to this stuff which isn’t good at all and I think starting the topic of calling it out is a great way to bring attention to this issue and hopefully make some changes. Personally I think that Killing Stalking needs to be the first to toss in the dumpster for numerous reasons but that’s just my opinion. Thanks for sharing your thoughts tho~

I saw the character thinking the way you describing, but I don't think the manga is like that.
This manga is really cute. It shows how silly amami's ideas about gays are. Why you seeing prejudice and abuse around every corner?

I think we all need to be careful viewing some of the themes in yaoi but also take some of the interactions with a grain of salt. It’s in this weird gray area

Cos we must make sure we see things objectively and not go "Hot guys smashing each other = Good story". Sometimes our bias can make you overlook really off themes and even if opinions differ, we must voice it out. The manga wanted to make amami look silly for being paranoid, yet the manga portrays gays as invasive, harassing and panting like horny animals and thus proving amami's point. There wasnt one gay person that wasn't trying to grope him. Even the bartender confessed that he wouldnt be able to "keep his hands off" amami if he were gay. This is Not true of gay people at all. I mean, do straight people want to grab their crush's ass or invade their space 24/7 just because they like their crush? You'd get a restraining order. LGBT people are just normal people, minding their own business and respecting the law.

Its cute, but the cuteness is like rose-tinted glasses, trying to mask the underlying stereotypes and misconceptions of gay people. Afterall Yaoi is for female fans. Its just fetishising handsome gay men for women to objectify and enjoy... Imagine if all the characters in here were ugly or like 60 year old uncles. Would you think its "cute" and "okay"? No. Don't let the hot images create the illusion that this is always okay. We always have to treat it with a grain of salt and make sure we know that Yaoi (BL porn for women) is not Reality and respect LGBT.

I agree with a lot of your points here and the reason why I said it was in “this weird gray area” is bc yaoi obviously isn’t realistic. However I don’t think yaoi is only made for female audiences (there may be some men in here too but we don’t judge) and the point is to not objectify them at all or to like appeal to some lewd fantasy. There are stories that are purely smut yes, but there’s also the genre Shounen Ai which is sex-free and focuses on the relationship and the feelings of the couple(s) but there are some who combine the two so it’s not just slutty ikemen going at it for straight girl’s pleasure. I find this common misconception frustrating, bc it really gives yaoi and BL a bad name.

why do we have to voice it out? maybe if I stop looking for the themes and over time I will learn something. If a cute cute man is in the area, yeah all the gays I know will be wanting to cuddle him up. They do talk like that.
But why do you sound like you want to make lgbt's good and minding their own business? I know some that are annoying as shit. LOL
And if I have a cute new lover it's true that you can't keep your hands off. sure that's true, but that will calm down. this story is about a new cute guy on the scene and what I can tell, you will see a lot of the same sort of behavior around him as in this story. Why do you champion the cause of the poor little lgbt's? For me, those lgbt's got nothing to do with me reading yaoi, and they should mind their own business, not mine. and I will mind mine and not have anything to do with any of them but the ones I'm friends with. plus I have my own perspective, and I rather trust other people to have theirs, or gradually as they grow, learn this perspective. I don't see any gays jumping to defend and look out for women who like to read yaoi.

you worry too much about this stuff. it's like you feel guilty for reading this shit. fuck that. You're nice to worry, but you don't owe any gays any explanations about how good and clean yaoi relationships are, and how they make a good image of gays in some even though others are full of all kinds of crap. this stuff hasn't got that much to do with being in the gay community. If you're not around so many gays, you shouldn't have to answer to those s.o.b.'s LOL. you guys who are saying things are too good a people to have to be so concerned about lgbt. You're good people. Don't worry about right and wrong so much. I don't mean to sound all advice-y. sorry sorry sincerely. I just hope you are happy and have love.

Hahaha thanks~ I only defend it cause it’s something I like to read often and the community on here is really cool and shows that we’re not alone on our weird sometimes perverted interests lol. And you’re right that it’s not representative of the LGBT community at all, and is really just fiction for others to enjoy and not make like a political or moral stance on love. It’s unrealistic like most manga and it’s not meant to be taken as such.

well hey, it portrays men in general. you cant separate them they've all got a stick up the butt. LOL
LOL. I think the author can't be thinking all this stuff with the themes or will never be able to write anything but a preachy pile of aesop fables or bible parables no one's gonna want to read. Author's not aiming a big gun at gays to try to put them into bad labels. just trying to give a good story. hey I know a guy just like amami. paranoid of gays, afraid they're gonna try to give him love just walking down christopher street. lmao. everyone laughs at him tho. lol
I would think any old uncle story is okay so long as it's a nice good read for some folks to enjoy, prejudices and all. I like the philosophy of friends who why have I gotta think about LGBT? I dont even care about them that much. not my issue bleeding heart for gays. lol I want to thrash more than one gay bastard I know lol. I mind my own business. try to enjoy life. know myself. don't think about right and wrong for people who nothing to do with this yaoi I like to read. fyi some weird men like to read this shit too. I'm not admitting to nuttin tho. lol! sorry. I go on and on. lol you seem pretty smart and good to think of these things.

I legit tried to say this whole thread before. I got into an argument/debate in these very comments a while ago (after the first chapter of vol 2 dropped) trying to get some one to understand Amami's pov, and why he is the way he is at the beginning of the story. And I was being told that I'm basically a horrible person for "justifying homophobia". Like the seme and all of the characters up to that point weren't fucking horrible ppl. Like the gay characters weren't being portrayed as actual ass pirates, horny beasts, and rapists. Like dude, I'm not saying homophobia is ok but homeboi been through shit yaknow.
