It's been nearly 6 years since I started this account. I was only 11 years old. Crazy how time flies. The only thing I enjoy doing is reading manga. Graduated high school a year early, planning to go to college, but things came up and didn't get to go. Now I feel like I've made a huge mistake by wasting my time not going to school or graduating with my friends. Not to mention that I don't even know what I want to do despite searching for a passion. Any idea how I can find what I want to do for school or career? Is going to college without knowing your major or career choice a bad idea?

I recommend trying a liberal arts school to widen your horizons! maybe make a list of things you are interested in and learn about them, for example doing unpaid internships or watching youtube videos surrounding the career?

Thank you!! That does sound like a good idea. Everytime someone asks me what I want to major in my default response is liberal arts. Never seriously considered it but I think that is something that might help me. I appreciate you taking your time to respond!

I second the liberal arts college idea. And also the nice thing is that you can take your core classes first while you try to decide what you’re interested in. Try to take interdisciplinary classes if you can. These will incorporate two very different subjects to give a you a much broader understanding of the subject matter. There are courses that allow you to take a math and art class or religion and English, etc.
Also if you’re still on the fence about heading straight to school and you live in the US, you could consider Americorps. You can choose to work in a field in which you think you might be interested in, get paid and in the end get a stipend to help pay toward college expenses.
Either way you are actually in pretty good situation because many people got to college ‘sure’ of their majors and end up wasting time and money. Good luck in which ever way you decide. Please feel free to message me if you have questions regarding Americorps.

Im nearly in the same boat as you, but i cancelled early grad. I know how stressful it is and how you go back in forth with if its the right choice or not. If you want, you could take a gap year and work while you explore other interest in what you wanna major in. Job shadowing or internships are great! Congrats on graduating highschool though, even if its earlier than you wanted, you worked hard!!

Wow. I never expected to receive such a long and detailed response. Thank you so much. Americorps sounds like a great opportunity.

Thank you so much!! Ahhh. In my family, my older siblings often get praised for being top students and just graduating isn't enough to elicit praise. It feels good to be congratulated. Thank you, it really means a lot, more than you can imagine. I wish you all the best and that you are able to actualize your dreams.
