That is true, too. But moments like this don't often happen twice. Anything could happen. One of them could die or whatever and the only thing they have left is regret. They are going to wish that they took yo chance to be together. And it is going to be so painful.
Sometimes even when it's painful you have to make a choice for yourself and not for someone else. If they each get some distance and can become healthy on their own, then their relationship would be more likely to succeed in the future if they choose to revisit it. Staying together and having your entire happiness and self worth be dependant on that one person is toxic and will just cause further hurt to each other in the long run.
I think they need to be apart for a while at this stage anyway. It's not healthy to be codependent on each other, they need to be able to stand on their own two feet first
