‘helping hand’

Migi chose to be dormant but would be give a ‘helping hand’ when it matters. Pun intended. I like to say that Migi is heartless (even if literally is) but he reflects our rosy-colored moral values. He protects Shinichi because the boy is his literal lifeline. Being separated from him will weaken his body and ultimately die. It’s a straightforward relationship between Migi and Shinichi but it also explains Shinichi’s relationships with his fellow humans.

He attaches value to Kana, Satomi, his mom, and his dad. Each of them holds a piece of Shinichi’s sense of self. That’s why losing his mom and Kana makes a part of him die or hurt. And it explains his desire to save them.

Migi looks selfish, but even Shinichi’s altruistic concerns for other people are just as selfish. This is why he felt ridiculous having the right to judge whether other parasytes should live or not. He could think of other people dying if he lets other parasytes roam free but he chooses to protect his small circle.

Humans are not really ‘selfless’, we just give pieces of ourselves to other people. The more piece we give to a certain something or someone, the more we lose value of our own body and focus on preserving that something or someone.

It’s all self preservation, yo! But sure, make it all beautiful and passionate. Let’s boost our ego and self-image. Humans live for aesthetics as well.
