To be fair they did use negative Asian stereotypes in the series too, but I 100% where you’re coming from. :/ The hyperfixation of Eurocentric beauty standards is so intoxicating. There’s a lack of representation of POC(apart from asian obv) in anime much less yaoi and I really hope that changes. But its unlikely since yaoi is meant to be fetishy material for straight women and not proper gay representation.
Yup I totally I agree. I too notice sometimes negative stereotypes of other Asians as well. I for one have never noticed a yaoi manga with even an Indian person tbh. But its something that Japanese people should deal with in their own way since it's their art form and if anything foreigners like me could be accused of fetishizing so I can see this issue on a myriad of levels.
This is when things get sensitive for some people. Soo many yaoi manga I've read and whenever there is any couple that is white/American/European they are NEVER seen as interracial when in fact they are but instead given a title of "international" couple. So because this guy is black people, its interracial. If this is the case then call a spade a spade. In all fairness, usually whenever I see a Chinese or even a Russia person in manga they are usually mobsters or mafia people. Yet the European fetish is pretty obvious. It would be nice if the one bl manga I see with a black person isn't something involving prison. Sadly it's a very exportable stereotype that will take a while to get over especially since I am assuming Japanese people have historically had more interactions with white people and only see and understand black people through TV and media.
