I guess because they were found out by Ingrid's father. They had relationship before and her father was against it since Hector is a commoner.
And the father beat him almost to death.. That's the scar left..
Ok this is so intriguing ! I want to know the real story behind those scars and tears. Did he sacrifice himself for Ingrid ? She probably did something wrong and he had to protect her by saying it was him ?
