i assumed that the pics depict chihiros parents and his sister whos married and has kids. earlier on he lamented that he doesnt like kids because as a gay man he cant have them. i think that chihiros both upset that he cant have kids, and like you said, hes not in any of the pictures that his family proudly displays. and they all look happy without him.
He’s not in any of the pictures. They basically erased proof that he was ever a part of their family.
Yeah, now going back and watching them again, I noticed that the 2 supposed grandparents have the same colours of hair as portraited in some other pics with the
protagonist as a kid. So I guess that he has a older or younger brother (the kid with black hair and glasses) that grew up, got married and then got 2 kids. And they totally erased the gay son from the family. Sadness. So we know his parents are assholes, but also his brother that didn't step up and say anything about it all.
What's with the pictures in the house? I didn't get it what was "wrong" with them, was it another family (like his just moved away)? Or was it his family that just removed every pics he was in it? Or was he in some pictures? I.. think it wasn't his family in the portraits, but I'm not sure.
